Why Join Us?

Legal Service Officers (“LSOs”) in the Singapore Legal Service are appointed by the Singapore Legal Service Commission.  The breadth and scope of experience that is available to an LSO in the Legal Service is unsurpassed.

2You may serve as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in one of the 2 divisions of the Crime Cluster of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (“the AGC”), namely the Criminal Justice Division or the Financial & Technology Crime Division.  You may also serve as a State Counsel in the Civil Division or the International Affairs Division, or as a Legislative Draftsman in the Legislation Division, of the AGC. 

3You may be appointed a District Judge, Magistrate, Coroner or Registrar at the State Courts, the Supreme Court or the Family Justice Courts. 

4LSOs may be also appointed Directors or Heads of Legal Service departments or Legal Counsel in Ministry HQs, departments and the Registries. These include the Legal Aid Bureau; the Insolvency & Public Trustee’s Office; and the Legal departments/units of the Ministries of Law; Defence; Home Affairs; Manpower; Education; Health; Social & Family Development; Communications & Information; Culture, Community & Youth; and National Development. 

5LSOs may, in addition, be seconded to specific statutory boards/statutory bodies to undertake legal work. These include the Competition Commission of Singapore; the Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority; the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore; the Singapore Land Authority; the Economic Development Board, the Singapore Medical Council; the National Environment Agency; the Health Sciences Authority; the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore; the Personal Data Protection Commission; and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.  LSOs may also undertake specific statutory functions at Ministries and statutory boards.  These include the Office of the Public Guardian at the Ministry of Social & Family Development and the Commercial Affairs Department of the Singapore Police Force.  The Legal Service departments/units and statutory boards that LSOs may work at are shown under “structure” of the Singapore Legal Service.
