Legal Service Officers (“LSOs”) in the Singapore Legal Service are appointed by the Singapore Legal Service Commission.

You may serve as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Crime Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (“AGC”). You may also serve as a State Counsel in the Advocacy Group, the Civil Division or the International Affairs Division, or as a Legislative Draftsman in the Legislation Division, of the AGC.

You may be also appointed a Director or Head of a Legal Service department or Legal Counsel in a Ministry HQ, department or statutory board/statutory body.

You will, as an LSO, have a noble and fulfilling legal career. You will serve and protect the interests of the public and the nation. You will directly participate in the administration of justice and be in a position to advance the rule of law in Singapore.

The seniority/level of appointment and the initial salary/remuneration package of selected candidates will be determined on the basis of the specific needs of the Singapore Legal Service, the candidate’s qualification(s) and relevant prior legal work experience (where applicable).

Benefits

The benefits offered by the Singapore Legal Service/Public Service include:

1. medical benefits:

   • subsidised outpatient treatment; and

   • 2% contribution by Government to the officer’s Medisave account;

2. dental benefits:

   • up to 85% subsidy for dental treatment for each calendar year (subject to a maximum of $250 per calendar year);

3. leave per calendar year:

   • vacation leave of 18 days;

   • medical leave of 14 days/60 days if warded in hospital;

   • maternity leave (subject to the requisite criteria) of up to 16 weeks;

Career Development

Every LSO will be accorded the opportunity to develop to the fullest of his/her potential within the Singapore Legal Service.

The young LSOs will be provided training in core legal/professional areas with a focus on the officers acquiring the requisite capabilities and professional expertise to meet the needs of the Singapore Legal Service.

The eligible LSOs may be considered for specialist/vocational training. This may include attachments to suitable law firms, leading barristers’ chambers or other partner organisations for exposure to the private/legal services sector and to relevant specialist legal work. The eligible LSOs may also be considered for attachments to specific organisations/companies to gain commercial experience.

The Singapore Legal Service awards scholarships to LSOs to pursue further studies and deepen their expertise in specific areas of law. LSOs may apply for an LSC Scholarship to pursue a postgraduate degree in law or a Doctorate at either local or leading overseas institutions.

The outstanding LSOs may also be granted scholarships/training awards to undertake leadership and executive/development programmes at premier business schools/institutions and the Civil Service College.
